Are You Self Employed or in Business?
The easy way to determine this is to walk away from your business for a few months. If the business if relying on you to make all the decisions, do all the work and earn all the income then I have sad news for you. You’re Self Employed.
Even as a highly paid professional you can still be caught in the trap of exchanging your time for money. Without additional income streams you can’t really have a holiday or walk away from the business and expect it to survive.
Whats the Answer?
The reality of it is what is the question? Questioning why you are in this position is often the first step to realising how we are positioning ourselves in the marketplace and why we have made the decisions we have and the outcomes from those decisions. It may be an emotional blockage with self-worth; it could be just the business model we were trained in (or most probably followed or fell into because everyone else does it this way) or it could be just a series of decisions which have lead you here.
The bigger question is are you uncomfortable enough to change? Is where you are now uncomfortable or losing its passion and do you have the drive to do something about it. Without a drive to change (either moving away from or moving towards something) very little will change.
The focus of a business coach is to look at where you are now, what flicks your switch and where do you want to be in the next 2-3 years time. We work with 90 day action plans to work towards moving to your new goals/vision. The reality is at about week 4-6 you become quite uncomfortable and this is when procrastination, blame or denial comes in. This is when having a business coach as you ally and mentor to help you move through this period comes into its own.
